Our adventures in Waiheke wine

Our Story

Andrew has always wanted a house with its own vineyard. As an Englishman, his thoughts were a chateau in the south of France. When he moved to New Zealand this became a little impractical, so we bought a house on Waiheke - The Island of Wine. In 2015 we decided to explore the idea of putting a vineyard at the house, this led to leasing one vineyard, then another and we established Delamore Estates which has the brand Postage Stamp Wines. In November 2021 Delamore Estates purchased Obsidian Wines.

And if that was not enough, when the local wine store - Waiheke Wine Centre - came on the market in 2022, we decided this would be a good fit with our other businesses.

We are placing their stamp on this well-loved wine business, infusing it with fresh vision and renewed dedication to excellence.

Obsidian derives its name from the shards of obsidian discovered in our vineyard during its initial planting. This unique volcanic glass, not native to Waiheke, was brought from Mayor Island by Māori tribes living in Onetangi. The obsidian was highly valued and was historically utilized by the native Māori for tools.

Postage Stamp Wines was our first wine business on Waiheke Island. We launched with our syrah rosé, Genevieve, names after Andew’s daughter. Over time we have developed our range of wines and the wine experiences to bring you something truly different and very Waiheke Island.

When the Waiheke Wine Centre came up for sale at the beginning of 2022, we saw this as an opportunity to expand how we promote and enjoy Waiheke Island wines to all who visit our little slice of paradise.

The store has a full range from Waiheke Island as well as an interesting selection of other New Zealand and international wines.
